Kate and I have just returned from the pool where she showcased her brand new swimming skills. On tonight's agenda: lupper at Flat Branch, then a tour of professors' homes and some Shakey's, then the rest of the sangria we made last night and Brady-fountain-jumping. Let's hope we don't get arrested.

Birthday shout-outs to Kristen (today) and Kate (yesterday). Happy 22, girls! (It's all downhill from here.) Presents are coming soon.
This week on Holovaty.com, the bizarro Ricky Martin takes on Page-Sixers. Watch out, Sarah Jessica Parker! (See the July 12 entry...sorry, Adrian, I haven't had a chance to read your gripping commentary in a while.)
The reason I haven't been keeping up on Holovaty.com is, as you all know, because I've been in Birmingham interviewing at Southern Progress Corporation for 11 different internships. This was much like rushing a sorority, I would imagine, although I have never done that (although I did watch a fair amount of MTV's Sorority Life while I was at home). The goal was to get people to love me, all of my competitors were heavily made up; at the end, I got to pick my preferences, and now I get to wait agonizingly to see if the ones I picked picked me, too. Sounds like rush to me.
The good news is, the grueling interview process is over. The even better news is, Kate is flying in tomorrow from Austin for a visit! The worst news of all is that I received a note from my landlords today detailing all of the things in my apartment that must be cleaned before Diana and I can get our deposits back. Yuck.

My time as an employee at the Missouri Unions will officially be over in 14 minutes. I hope I can finish this entry before then.
As I will no longer have a job that allows me to surf the Internet with reckless abandon, the frequency with which this blog is updated will likely decrease. Sincere apologies to all my faithful readers (especially to Kate, for whom this blog was created in the first place, so she would have something to do with her adultolescent self).
Fear not, though, friends, there is much more TK in July, including an update on my Southern Progress interviews (hopefully a happy one), Clare and Kate's wild and wacky tour of Mid-Missouri and of course, at the end of the month, Clare and Kristen Shop and Drink in New York City (only without any annoying people this time)!
Keep reading. I'll be back soon.

Have become addicted to Barnes & Noble. Last night marked fourth time I have been in store in past week (although one time technically does not count as was just passing through with Holly on our way to harass Doug at his new job at Suncoast Video). Used credit card (previously reserved only for such "necessity" purchases as gas and groceries) to buy book, signaling that books have now become necessity and not merely form of entertainment. Worse, B&N has taken to playing my favorite music (John Mayer, Norah Jones, Frank Sinatra) in attempt to keep luring me back into store.
Also, re-read Bridget Jones in attempt to stave off Barnes & Noble cravings (v. unsuccessful, obviously), resulting in me writing blog in Bridget Jones-style manner.

I knew I shouldn't have done it.
I started looking at apartments in Birmingham, even though my interview isn't for another week and a half, even though that doesn't mean I've got an internship and even though, if I do get an internship, there's no guarantee that it will turn into a full-time job. But I was bored/curious here at work, so I decided to peruse the Web in an attempt to answer the $64,000 question: Can I see myself living in Birmingham?
The answer is a resounding yes. In my search, I happened upon the cutest apartment ever, rivaled only by my own current apartment (although this one looks much cleaner, I must say). Now if I don't get this internship, I will be even more devastated. Oh, dear.

Word of the day: nifty. Use liberally, in the manner of Mr. Holovaty.
Last night, in the midst of packing, I went to Wal-Mart and bought myself a little treat, a copy of Bridget Jones's Diary (the film) and a package of "Skinny Cow" ice cream sandwiches that promise to be 98% fat free and that Cara assured me were delicious. (I also stumbled upon them while reading Health magazine in preparation for my upcoming interviews and could not stop thinking about them, hence the trip to Wal-Mart.)
I don't really have the funds to justify this expenditure but, oh well, I felt like celebrating. I'm very glad I bought Bridget Jones. A bloody funny movie with two v. hot male leads. I'm still wracked with guilt that I gave it a "make the matinee" in my review. But in my defense, I still maintain that Vox needs to change its rating system to stars or something.
As for the ice cream sandwiches, they were all they promised to be and more! I can't wait to try the other varieties, such as chocolate and peanut butter cup. I couldn't help but wonder if they really are low fat, like the yougurt in that Seinfeld episode. So I read the back of the package. Apparently, the cows from which the ice cream comes lead quite an ideal existence similar to Gwyneth Paltrow's. They are kept thin by an all-natural diet, a rigorous exercise program and lots of time in the spa. Hey, whatever works.

Quote of the day: "That mountain air must make her stupid." --Chase McCown on a certain raven-haired, cross-eyed former Vox staffer from Colorado
The J.Crew clearance catalog will be the death of me. So many nice sweaters, so little money in my bank account.
If you, on the other hand, have $3 to spare, go out and pick up the new issue of Esquire and read the interview with Hilary Swank. Probably the only good celebrity profile I've ever read, although I admit that a few other Esquire profiles have been pretty good, including last month's on Al Pacino, and the ones from years past on Michael Stipe and Mr. Rogers. (Didn't Tom Junod write both of those?) Anyway, Hilary was able to offer me some words of comfort during this time in my life, which some (including singer John Mayer and my former classmate Courtney Zimmer) insist on calling a quarter-life crisis.
The basic gist of the article was this: Don't be too upset if you get kicked off of 90210 because it might lead you to win an Oscar. Amen, Hilary. My faith restored by these sentiments, I found that, as I predicted in my last entry, July is already proving to be a better month than June. I am going to Birmingham in a couple of weeks to interview for an internship at Southern Progress, which produces, among other magazines, Southern Living, the official magazine of my family. (My mom's elbow once appeared in a photograph in the magazine when they came to our town to cover a party we were attending.) Needless to say, my mother is quite beside herself at the prospect that I could be working at this magazine.
So kids, if you get kicked off of 90210, try not to cry too much. Your Best Actress Oscar could be right around the corner.

Last night, Johnny and I went to Steak and Shake after work because we were both starving, having missed out on the Summer Welcome ice cream earlier in the evening. As we were leaving (around midnight), I noticed a girl at the counter filling out an application. Who goes in to apply for a job at midnight?
Not only did the mail come early today, I also received my August issues of both Esquire and Real Simple. As it is only the first day of July, I must say that this is quite unprecedented. I will take this as a sign that July is going to be a good month.
